Free Medical Mission

Abazu - Alaeze Ogwa, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State

The just concluded 5-day free medical mission, conducted from May 27 to May 31 2024, was a significant success. it provided comprehensive medical services to underserved, less privileged communities in the rural areas of Abazu - Alaeze Ogwa, in Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State. This initiative was a collaboration between Sovereign Grace African Foundation (SGAF), Operation Blessing, Nicer Foundation, local healthcare providers, and numerous volunteers.

Key Activities

  1. Medical Consultations and Treatments:

  • General health check-ups.

  • Specialist consultations (pediatrics, gynecology, cardiology).

  • Laboratory test.

  • Minor surgical procedures (Appendectomy, Myomectomy, Herniorrhaphy)

  • Dental check-ups and treatments.

  • Vision tests and distribution of eyeglasses.

  2. Preventive Care and Education :

Health education sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and chronic disease management

  1. Counseling

Patients, often weighed down by physical ailments and socio-economic challenges, found great help not just in medical care, but also in the uplifting words of the gospel. They were encouraged to embrace faith in Christ, which offers healing for their sin-sick souls and the experience of God's boundless love. This blend of spiritual support and medical treatment not only catered to their physical needs but also nourished their souls with the profound message of salvation.

Achievements

Patient Reach:

  • The mission served over 1,200 individuals.

Medical Interventions:

  • Provided over 1,200 medical consultations,

  • Over 200 dental treatments,

  • 600 vision tests and treatment.

  • We provided nearly 1,000 in-person counseling sessions that centered exclusively on the gospel. During these sessions, we distributed over 900 free Bibles.
Referrals: We Identified over 200 cases for further specialised surgeries and facilitated their treatment, which spans beyond the 5-day period.

Impact/Outcomes:

Immediate treatment and interventions helped address acute health issues and prevent potential complications.

Health education sessions improved community knowledge on essential health practices.

In Conclusion, the 5-day free medical mission was a remarkable success, providing vital healthcare services to a large number of underserved and less privileged individuals, which has left a lasting positive impact on the community. Plans for future missions in Akwa Ibom and Kaduna State are already underway, with aims to expand the scope and reach even more people in need with free health care and most importantly, the Gospel of God’s Sovereign Grace.
