Text - Romans 10: 14-17

Theme - The Necessity of Preaching & Hearing.

“God sends us the gospel through a person, mostly a preacher, many of them come from good churches that train and equip believers. Ephesians 4:12, they tell us about Christ according to scripture, so we can understand it, believe it and be saved. He makes people eager, willing and passionate to preach the gospel, some risk their lives, others abandon personal comfort, opportunities and privileges, so you and many others can hear the Gospel 1 Cor. 9:16.

The scriptures says “we love because He first loved us; believers share the joy, great joy of seeing other people saved, so we eagerly want to be a part of it by telling someone else and seeing God save them. Luke 15:7-10. Through this program, the gospel is being preached to you every weekend, and I love it! It is the greatest honour of my life, and am tearfully thankful.

Yet, beyond and above the feeble words of preachers, I mean everyone speaking about Christ, God Himself, speaks to you through the scripture, using the preacher’s mouth, making His word real in your heart. He alone gives life from the dead (the new nature - born again) by the power of His grace John 6:63.

No preacher can do it, I like what Steve Lawson, a preacher once said “the preacher can only bring the gospel to your ear, only God can take it from your ear and put it in your heart.”. We don’t believe with our ears, we believe with our heart; only God can open our hearts and cause us to believe.

However, not everyone receives this message of the gospel, some of you are distracted, you laugh over sin and the message of eternal punishment - lake of fire, which shows you have not believed the gospel.

Many were mocking, laughing and jesting at Noah as he preached for maybe 100yrs or more till judgment came. “ The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18.

There is nothing funny about sin and eternal damnation if you truly believe it in your heart, even the thought of it should make you sober and afraid. What can be funny about a gas explosion in your house with fire burning you and everyone in your family trapped inside the house? No sane person will laugh at that; yet, we know that hell is more real and worst than gas explosion because it is eternal- it will last forever.

Anyone who understands and believes the message of the gospel - the wages of sin, the terror of hell and the mercy of God found in Christ alone, will indeed grieve but also rejoice because of what Christ has done; He took the punishment that you deserve. 2 Cor. 5:21.

To have faith is to believe that you are a miserable sinner, conceived in iniquity, unable to help yourself and Christ is a glorious saviour Psalm 51; it cannot happen without hearing and understanding the Gospel, Christ death and resurrection - the Good News about Jesus Christ.

Faith is built on the foundation of hearing and receiving the truth of the Gospel, so try not to sleep, don’t get distracted, listen, pay attention, so you can hear and understand, that’s the only way to receive faith - it comes by hearing.

Finally, salvation is more than the forgiveness of sins, which is extremely phenomenal in itself, yet, it extends beyond that ; “it also frees us from the control and power of sin. It offers more than just having our sins forgiven; it includes experiencing the presence of Christ, finding joy in sharing the gospel with others, building a relationship with God, loving fellow believers, having assurance of eternal life, and gaining strength in times of trials.’ Heshimu Colar

Feel free to ask me any question you may have. It’s important that you hear, keep hearing, come to understanding, believe in Christ and call upon Him continually. He is able to save to the uttermost, He saves completely those who call on Him because He lives to make intercession for them Hebrews 7:25. In Christ, you can be sure that your salvation is eternal.
