Text : Genesis 1

As we studied the remaining verses of Genesis chapter one, recounting the fascinating story of creation to little children, we observed that God created many physical things: vegetation, animals, lights, and humans. These things are all tangible and temporary—they will perish one day. However, God also created the soul, which is eternal and will live forever.

In our souls, God gifts natural qualities such as insight, instincts, perception, inspiration, ideas, and aspirations. But beyond these, for some, He has given spiritual wisdom through His Word, as described in 1 Corinthians 1:30. This spiritual wisdom produces the fruit of obedience to God.

The soul, hidden within us like the yolk inside an egg, is of immeasurable value. But consider this: if the soul is left to itself, it naturally becomes hardened—like a boiled egg through disobedience - and will be consumed by Satan, leading up to eternal destruction and cast into hell forever.

However, for those chosen by God, their souls are like eggs that have been brooded over and hatched, bringing forth new life. This transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit in believers, granting them eternal life through faith in Christ; it is a new life in Christ - born again. I pray that the Spirit of God will stir your heart toward the gospel and grant you eternal life.

God calls us to prioritize the well-being of our souls over our physical bodies. He wants us to value spiritual wisdom, which comes from His Word, above natural wisdom, which is like the lesser light.

Think of it this way: your legs are far more valuable than your shoes, and your ears are infinitely more important than earrings. Likewise, the Word of God is far more precious than natural productive ideas or even the pleasures of life, such as jollof rice and chicken. Jesus warns us in Mark 8:36: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”

Therefore, give yourself wholeheartedly to the teaching of God’s Word. Listen attentively to the gospel, take it seriously, and value it above everything else—whether scientific discoveries, fascinating stories in movies, or even the best meals - jollof rice and chicken.

Pray that God’s Word will take root in your heart and bear the fruit of obedience in your life.

Key Explanations:

1. Egg yolk analogy– clarified by explaining that the soul is like the inner, precious part of a person. The hardening refers to spiritual blindness, disobedience, leading to destruction.

2. Boiled egg analogy– clarified by describing the hardened soul as one consumed by sin and Satan, destined for hell.

3. Brooded over and hatched – explained as the Holy Spirit bringing new life to believers, symbolizing transformation and salvation.

4. Comparisons to jollof rice and chicken– explained to emphasize that spiritual nourishment through God’s Word is more important than physical pleasures.

The older kids continued their study of 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 with Heshimu Colar. Links to their study will be made available in the coming weeks.

The Lord is planting the seed of His gracious word in the hearts of these little ones, we pray He brings forth harvest as mentioned in 1 Peter 1:23.
