Text : Genesis 2: 1-17
We had the privilege of another enriching session for children, focused primarily on the gospel and foundational education.
As we continued on the book of Genesis, the teaching for the younger children centered on chapter 2, where we explored how God created man and placed him in the garden of Eden, filled with every good thing. God gave man the freedom to enjoy all He had provided, but He also set a boundary: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
This restriction reminds us that God does not want us to have experiential knowledge of evil and its consequences. Although God, in His sovereignty, can bring good out of evil and glorify Himself through it, it is far better to avoid such experiences entirely.
We also highlighted the presence of the “tree of life” in the garden, which points to Christ—our true source of eternal life. We see Him again mentioned in Revelation 22 and truly speaking, He is in all of scripture; He is the bread of life “whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood will never die”. He lives eternal life. We experience this reality by hearing and believing in Him through the gospel.
For us Christians, after regeneration, He brings us into His church - (local body of believers) - Eden, where we are nourished, equipped, and called to serve others with the gifts He has given us (Ephesians 4:11-13).
We are also warned against false teachings, particularly the prosperity gospel. While some of its teachings, such as diligence and motivation, may appear good, they are often intertwined with heresies that can lead to eternal destruction by luring the soul and leading her astray.
This is like poisoned water—inseparable and deadly. Instead, we are reminded to fix our eyes on Christ, the tree of life, and not rely on the law, which reveals sin but cannot save. The scripture tells us clearly that the law is good but God wants on all eyes on Christ. We must learn to feed on Christ alone.
God’s instructions for us are plain and simple “the day you eat, you shall surely die”, the letter kills but the spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:6.
Next week, we will see the consequences of disobedience when we choose to ignore God’s instructions, drawing deeper lessons from the remaining verses of Genesis 2.
Meanwhile, the older children continued their study of 1 Corinthians under the diligent guidance of Mr. Heshimu. His labor in presenting the Gospel with clarity and understanding is helping the children grow in their knowledge of Christ and His redemptive work.
Additionally, we have a dedicated English tutor, who is starting from the basics—teaching consonants, vowels, and essential reading and writing skills. It is a crucial part of the children’s overall development and a key component of our free weekend program.
We are deeply grateful for your continued prayers, encouragement, and support. Together, we are sowing seeds that will bear fruit for God’s kingdom by His grace alone.
