Week 94 - Free Weekend Program For Children

Date: 7th June, 2025

Text: Genesis 12:1-9

Theme: God’s Call

In Genesis 12:1–9, we witness a significant moment in Scripture—God calling Abram to leave his homeland, his culture, his family, and everything familiar. This wasn’t just a change of location—it was a divine call into a life of faith and blessing.

God gave Abram an extraordinary promise:

“I will make you into a great nation,

and I will bless you;

I will make your name great,

and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,

and whoever curses you I will curse;

and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

(Genesis 12:2–3)

What’s important to note is that Abram wasn’t searching for God. He was living in a culture filled with idolatry. Although Noah had known God and taught his sons, humanity quickly turned away. At Babel, people sought their own glory, and God scattered them. Despite this rebellion and spiritual blindness, God sought out Abram and gave him the grace to obey.

Abram’s story reminds us that salvation begins with God. We don’t find Him—He calls us. He opens our ears and gives us hearts willing to obey. As 1 Peter 2:9 says, “He called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

Was Abram in darkness? Yes. The Bible says those who worship idols are like them—spiritually blind and deaf (Psalm 115:4–8). Only God can open our eyes and ears to understand the truth. No matter how sound a preacher’s doctrine may be, it is the Holy Spirit who brings real understanding and faith. This is not just head knowledge—it’s heart transformation that leads to obedience (John 6:63).

When God said He would make Abram’s name “great,” He wasn’t promising worldly fame or fortune. In God’s eyes, to be great means to know Him, live for His glory, walk in holiness, and love others. The true blessing promised to Abram is the life of Christ revealed in the gospel:

• Redemption through the blood of Christ

• Forgiveness of sins

• Obedience born from faith

• Sanctification by the Holy Spirit

• Eternal life

Abram became a witness of God’s grace—a living testimony of His glory. Through him, the message of salvation began to spread. Everyone who believes the gospel is blessed; those who reject it remain under God’s judgment (Matthew 19:14–15). And through Abram’s spiritual descendants—those who put their faith in Christ—the blessing continues to reach the nations (Psalm 89:30–37).

So what does this mean for us today?

Maybe someone—your brother, sister, or friend—invited you to this Bible study, or to watch The Pilgrim’s Progress on Sunday. But behind that invitation was God Himself, calling you out of sin and spiritual darkness. He is still calling people today—away from the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the idolatry of self and materialism (Mark 4:19; Ephesians 5:5 – “A greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world”).

I remember how God called me personally. A brother invited me to attend a meeting with a visiting missionary and join a local prison outreach. At the time, I thought it was just a kind gesture—a simple charity visit. But looking back, I see that it was God calling me. He opened my eyes and ears, gave me understanding, and helped me receive the truth of the gospel. He called me out of false prosperity teaching and into a real relationship with Christ—away from self, and into a life that brings glory to God.

The Christian life is not passive or stagnant. We are meant to bear fruit—to be living testimonies of God’s grace—and to proclaim the gospel through our words and actions. Whether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, it should all point to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31), blessing others with the truth we have received.

God is still calling people today, just as He called Abram. He in itiates, He empowers, and He transforms.

The question is:

Will you listen?

Will you follow?

Let our lives be a witness of God’s mercy and grace. Let our faith be our response. And let our testimony—like Abram’s—become part of God’s eternal plan to bless the nations through the gospel of His sovereign grace.

You are not too small to invite your friends, to pray for them, or to pray for your mom and dad. If you have received the gospel, then God wants to make you an example of His grace and bless others through you.

NB

The children are learning and growing—in knowledge, in grace, and in wisdom. Please pray for them, especially as they face pressure and discouragement from their parents, many of whom are deeply involved in false prosperity teachings, fake miracles, false religious beliefs and practices.

We must remember: being poor doesn’t mean Satan takes a break. Whether people are rich or poor, trouble and persecution will come because of the word—just as Jesus said in Mark 4:17.

Let’s pray that these children stand firm in the truth of the gospel, and that their hearts remain rooted in Christ despite the opposition they face.
